Excited with the new signings, The gaffer plays three at the back, four in midfield, one in behind two strikers if i have read it correctly?

So including Crawford we have now signed Sarcevic and Comley all midfeilders.

So if two of the four in midfield are wingbacks where would Politic and Darcy figure?

On the bench?
Theoretically, we need two for every position although we probably won't get that.
I'm also excited though - on paper it's shaping up to be an attack-minded set up with technically decent players, feeding a proper finisher and chipping in with goals. Can't wait to see if the reality turns out to be anything like the vision.

Yep also really looking forward to next season, At this point we are assuming the new lads are better than the ones we know, sure at some point both will be asked to step up and they need to show they are worth the shirt.  I like Politic and would hope we don't move him on without seeing what impact he could have at this level. But i agree on the face of it, the bench looks likely.

You seem to be suggesting that Politic & Darcy will be left out, as though the new signings are Messi & Ronaldo.

I would hope to see both Politic and Darcy play, and on a fairly regular basis too

Bit worried about Brandon Comely. Name like a porn star.

Not suggesting that Nat i like both, however the manager seems to know exactly the system he wants to play and knows the breif needed to bring in the players that fit his system.

Do you see Crawford starting? Sarcevic and Comely bought to order so you could assume he sees them as part of the team. If he brings in two wingbacks then the only option for Politic would be ousting one of those three and playing in midfield or he plays wide and becomes a wingback? or the manger goes with a different system to the one he won the league with? i don't see Darcy anywere other than having to oust those three mentioned. So if called apon they have to perform to keep the shirt

My guess would be he will play to a system and rotate the squad to keep players fresh and at their peak throughout the season.

The system played at Barrow was 2-5-3, rather than having a player between the midfield and strikers - and it was a 'pressing formation' so if he played the same here he's going to burn out his midfield fairly quickly if he sticks to the same 'three' all the time.

I'm not sure that Comley was 'bought to order' in the same way that Sarcevic was but more likely one of a number of players we have to acquire and who fit the 'mould' for that particular position.

I may also be wrong about this but isn't Politic more of a winger type player, if so can he defend - because if he can he might be seen to be more of a wingback option than a 'inner' midfield position?

Just a thought.

9 Jul 2020 - Read our tactical analysis and tactics of Ian Evatt at Barrow. ... Inspired by his time playing under Ian Holloway at Blackpool, as well as studying Pep Guardiola's methods at ... The most common system utilised is the 3-5-2.

Everything i have read he plays three at the back, possesion football Sluffy, todays signing has a pass rate success rate of over over 80% so fits the profile re possession, On Politic i agree one of my options listed above was as a wingback, but not sure if he can defend hopefully as you say he may rotate so that they all play apart. Adding our young stars to the players he is bringing in makes for an exciting time hopefully.

Not sure what you were attempting to post up there Wessy?

This was his interview at Barrow where he talked about his footballing beliefs and mentioned about his formation and pressing the opposition.

He might well play what you've said at the top of the thread...

...but he certainly doesn't specify the 'attacking' midfielder as you have outlined - indeed his most successful goal scoring midfielder Rooney, was seen as the 'holding' midfielder!

Obviously that's not to say he will play the same formation or style here but I kind of expect he will.

My punt fwiw is that there will be several more midfielders brought in yet as all their combined energy will be required over the season with so much running and chasing that is going to be required in that department of the team.

Obviously a keeper a couple more central defenders and another solid striker as we have no idea how good Faal is/isn't at this stage, will be required also but I think the engine room will be were most of our hands will be required to be - budget allowing of course!

Well we will find out soon enough i guess, the extra midfielders may well be wingbacks, a learning curve for the fans until we see the line up, but up to now very pleased  with the signings including the manager, i have always thought that you should play it out from the back, otherwise you make posession a fifty fifty ball, especially when we used to have a small striker up front.

I like the idea of playing a pressing / posession game i like the idea that the Coach expects high levels of fitness and he does look like someone who knows exactly what he wants and will make sure they deliver, so it's a million miles from were we were a year ago.

I was trying to point out that he plays three at the back rather than 2-5 3 you listed.

Sorry I meant 3-5-2 - clearly we wouldn't win many games with just two defenders!

Very Happy

Just seen on Wandererers way that the transfer thread morphed into this discussion, most think that Darcy will be cover for Crawford and Politic needs to show Evatt what he's about but has the ability to shine, also mentions playing one in behind the two strikers so i think that's going to be Crawford's role.

Nice to have options and have talented players to fight for the shirt.

I'll just be happy to see us play again and hopefully see some nice possession football for the first time in a long while. Can't remember how long it's been since i felt excited about a new season but it all feels different now.

Lets face it 2 relegations in 2 seasons and all the financial issues have ground us all down, the only way is up!
