Poppy Rage

I went to a conference today at a hotel in Worsley. I was one of 5 speakers telling people how to be great at doing business.

After I'd finished inspiring people, a bloke came up to me and asked me where my poppy was. I said it's probably at home on the jacket I was wearing yesterday. He called me a disgrace, and went into a long rant about people disrespecting the poppy and what it stands for. I had to be pulled off the twat.

I am sick and tired of this shit regarding the poppy. Firstly, when did it become compulsory to wear one wherever you go? Secondly, I thought Remembrance Sunday was in 4 days, not today.

Sienna Miller didn't wear a poppy on Graham Norton's chat show on Friday and she's been crucified. You'd think she was a nonce the way people have been abusing her.

You shouldn't have to wear a cheap plastic poppy to show how you feel about people who gave up their lives for our freedom. I think about them all the time, I don't need a poppy to remind me.

I have chucked my poppy and won't be wearing one again. I'll contribute but I'm sick of people acting like the poppy police.

i have to admit i very rarely wear one although i do appreciate the sacrifices the armed forces have made for us over the many years

I agree with you. I have the most admiration for those who died in the wars, who were injured, who need support now, and choose personally to wear a poppy to show thats how I feel and contribute a bit of money to help. A lot of people parrot that people died in part to keep our freedom of speech, I agree with that, but for me such freedom has to extend to choice whether or not to wear a poppy.

I wear mine, couldn't give a shit about anybody else wearing one though, it's their choice.

I've had the same poppy for 30 years.

It does seem to be getting earlier and earlier every year this Poppy wearing lark.

I don't always wear one due to forgetting to get one.

When I lived in Holland though me and the lads always took flowers and a wreath on the 11th to this beautifully kept local Commonwealth war cemetery at Mierlo..........

Ah thats one across the water. The one i was thinking of was down south in the uk. Ive been to about 4 of the commonwealth war sites and they are very humbling and amazing places to walk around

I wear metal poppies, so no pin to skin or clothes required. However if you wear a paper or metal poppy there is a correct way to wear it.
It's very trivial yet significant.

Yes...........? Spit it out. I might have been wearing mine wrongly all these years.

Always buy at least one as I tend to lose them pretty rapidly (I don't like pinning holes in my clothes. Definitely a cause I support but it's a choice, I don't have time for people who get wound up at those who don't.
