Wanderers are waiting on the results of a scan on Joel Coleman’s injured calf before deciding whether to take the leap on a new keeper.
On the eve of deadline day, Ian Evatt admitted he was still “touch and go” whether the club would look to add a new keeper to see them through any prolonged absence.
Coleman tore his calf against Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night and is currently expected to miss up to six weeks. But should the prognosis worsen after his scan, Wanderers intend to look for another option.
Youngster Luke Hutchinson has already been recalled from a loan spell with Hyde United to ensure there is goalkeeping cover in the short-term.
Evatt admitted there were some tired bodies after a taxing tie against Boro in midweek but said he had no other injuries to contend with for this weekend’s visit of Derby County.
Skipper Ricardo Santos has made progress after an ankle injury picked up at Burton but Evatt admitted he was unlikely to feature.
“It is not as bad as first feared but he still has symptoms,” he said. “We don’t know yet how long he will be out for.
“We are waiting on the results on Joel’s scan but it does look a significant injury, so it is something we might need to deal with, and George Johnston is out long term but making good progress.
“There are a few knocks and niggles from Tuesday because it was an aggressive and intense game, but everyone seems ready to go.”
Asked whether transfer business was still likely in the last day of the window, Evatt said there may yet be something to fuel the deadline day blog on The Bolton News’ website.
“There’s nothing to speak of at the moment but as we sit here there are still 24 hours left in the transfer window and things in this industry tend to develop quickly,” he said.
“I tend not to ‘expect’ anything in this game. We are here for business and if we need to do any then hopefully Marc Iles will bring some biscuits, healthy ones, and we can see how we get on.”
