If you were subjected to that kind of abuse all the time by people who "support" your team then would you be all that happy about them?

The Leeds fans gave him a very warm welcome when he came on and he gave them a wave as acknowledgement in gratitude because it's not at all uncommon for a returning former player to be booed by the people he used to be a hero to and it was probably a nice surprise and a welcome one for him.

Yet our fans have jumped all over it, blaming him for us losing the game despite him not even being on the pitch for well over two thirds of it.

Is he a good player? Yes but no more than good, he's never been and never will be a mega star or talisman. Does he sometimes mess up? Too right, we all do but most of us DON'T make our mistakes in front of 20,000 or more people and have them seen by millions on TV.

For my money he's an honest pro, a decent enough player on his day and didn't deserve the vitriol that's been heaped on him for weeks even if he wasn't performing well. So when a bunch of people finally make him feel welcome it made him smile and he waved back. That doesn't make him responsible for every disaster since the fall of man. It only makes him human. In his place, given what he's heard and seen from his own "alleged" current fans I'd have done the same.

Fair enough but what you don't want to see as a Bolton fan our last throw of the Dice to save the  game.

A Bolton player waving to the opposing fans.

I've heard he lives in Emmerdale, only drinks Yorkshire Tea, has Plusnet broadband and has a tattoo of Richard the Third on his arm.

The Yorkshire twat......

Burn him with fire!

Pete,

Are you familiar with the phrase "less is more"....?

Not everything in life requires an in-depth dissection in excruciating detail.

Your initial thoughts condensed into two or three pithy lines can often convey your point of view just as accurately as four paragraphs of waffle.

Just saying.....

We've never booed him here so I wouldn't be surprised

Boggers.......learn from today.

This afternoon you thought you could impose yourself on someone who you perceived as being intrinsically weak because they were a relatively new contributor on here and you thought that they would back off when you started your usual shit.

But it didn't play out like that, did it...?

You got your arse handed to you and quite a few of us laughed.

Fin has seen off far greater intellects than yours over the years, believe me.

Do yourself as favour and give it a rest, mate.

There's still a very real place for you on here and we want to help you find it.

If you don't like long posts then fine here's a short one.

When you boo a guy and call him a wanker every time he appears in YOUR TEAM'S SHIRT then I think he's not gonna be happy. So when a former club's fans make him feel welcome and treat him with respect he's gonna be happy to wave back to them. And if you don't understand that then you're a complete fucking idiot.

He's not getting abuse because he waved at the Leeds fans when he came on, he's getting abuse because he was acknowledging the Leeds crowd when the ball was in play.

Now that is fucking unprofessional, especially as he missed another sitter at the end. Perhaps if his mind had been on scoring (what he's paid to do) rather than waving at Leeds fans (not what he's paid to do) he'd actually score a few goals.

Anyone defending this ponce is clearly unfamiliar with the word "professional". Look it up.

Andy Hughes is taking similar abuse on twitter, he didn't play yesterday so obviously the fans aren't too picky about where when and how you acknowledge a former clubs fans.

They just want to abuse absolutely anyone seems to me, some pretty embarrassing stuff all told.

but I will say again, entitled to do as you please.

Hipster, do you not accept that when the ball is in play you shouldn't be waving at the fans?

I do, It isn't professional. I didn't see where and when he did it, it sounded on the radio as if it was at a corner situation.

If the balls about to be passed to him and he's waving away then I would hope he's taken aside and told to watch his conduct.

but my point about all this is way beyond Beckford himself so it's by the by really.

I think the thing that riled fans more than anything was when Beckford thumped his chest three times at the end of the game. Which is the salute for Leeds,Leeds,Leeds

Just read on another site that Beckford "famously" got subbed when playing for Leicester against Leeds for doing the same thing.

Personally, I reckon it's just the usual bollocks that gets made up when something like this happens, as the same person went on to say that they'd spoken to a Leeds fan who had heard Beckford say that he'd never score against Leeds for any other club because he loves them.

As I say, I'm 99% certain it's bollocks but has anybody else heard anything?

He clearly has the same deal with all clubs in the Championship.
