I've sent my dark suit to the cleaners. My red rose isn't what it was either. I can still do the face though.wanderlust wrote:Blair also cleared the decks and grabbed the centre ground for three terms of office. Just saying.....

What 3 key things would you promise in order to win a general election?

Free slippers for all pensioners. One pair per year, up to the price of £29.99
All news broadcasts must open with 'Nice to see you, to see you, nice'.
It can't lose. I feel it in my bones. Socialism with a wig on. Bring it on.

Numbers have sadly declined, but we still dress for dinner. Or put our trousers on at least.

Not sure coming out and praising that evil hag Thatcher was a great move for many life long labour voters like me.
Just when i think it's nailed on for a Labour win he comes back and disappoints me again![Rolling Eyes](https://2img.net/i/fa/i/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif)

Never had much faith in him, but he was a steady Eddy. This was a misstep, but I don't think it'll hurt him long term.Norpig wrote:Not sure coming out and praising that evil hag Thatcher was a great move for many life long labour voters like me.

Why would it hurt him to follow the actions of the greatest peace time PM this country’s ever had? Most people of course will see it for what it really is, just a cynical ploy to attempt to appear electable to Tory’s but sadly it won’t work because nothing he could do would ever make Labour look electable to even disenchanted Tory voters who will either vote Reform or not vote at all.boltonbonce wrote:

I hope you won't be comparing her to Churchill.
He brought the country together. She ripped it apart.

Churchill wasn’t peace time, your mates removed him after the war then people realised the mistake they’d made and re-elected him again. It happens every single time, people criticise the Tory’s, vote in Labour and live to regret it. History keeps repeating itself as a new load of first time voters think it will be different this time until they learn from experience that it never is. Sad but true and about to be proved yet again.boltonbonce wrote:I hope you won't be comparing her to Churchill.

A new low even for you WS63, she divided this country like no one else ever has or probably ever will.Whitesince63 wrote:

Wow, just WOW!!!
The Atlee Government which claim to have been a 'mistake'
It is widely regarded to be the greatest social reforming government of all time -
It created the NHS
It created free universal health care.
It created the welfare state.
It basically created the building of Council Housing
It nationalised the railways, aviation, the Bank of England, electricity and gas, etc.
It raised the school leaving age.
It rebuilt the economy immediately after the war.
It fell (as most Labour governments do) because of internal political splits - in this case over Unilateral nuclear disarmament.
