I'm not even sure you can teach maths up to the age of 18?

What I mean is that back in my time I took 'A' level Maths which required a certain amount of technical understanding of the subject - such as Calculus for instance, that even I found difficult - and I have always been naturally clever at maths and chose to take it at A level.

I can't imagine lots of students, such as your son, who haven't (shall we say) grasped the subject by the time they move on to college, benefiting much if it at all from another compulsory two more years of teaching - which no doubt they will rebel against.

I understand Rishi's desire for a move towards technical disciplines rather than the Arts, to benefit the country as a whole in the longer term but the thought that comes to my mind is that 'you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink!'.

Back to the original question in the article title, I’d say that nothing much changes and that they continue to disappoint in varying degrees.

Nadhim Zahawi committed a serious breach of ministerial code, says Sunak

Nadhim Zahawi has been sacked from government after an inquiry by Rishi Sunak's ethics adviser criticised how he handled his tax affairs.

The prime minister said an inquiry showed there had been "serious breach of the ministerial code".

Dan Neidle, the tax lawyer who began investigating Mr Zahawi's tax affairs last year, told BBC News the MP had "set lawyers on me... he tried to shut me up".

This is an excellent thread on Twitter from the bloke I quoted above - Dan Neidle - who was the tax lawyer specialist whose investigation eventually brought Zahawi down -

You need to click on the Tweet below and read the whole thread on Twitter - it's well worth it though -

Also...

This is Dan being interviewed on Radio - it's hair curling what he says about Zahawi (and no doubt many others) lying so blatantly and trying to use libal laws to shut people up!

What people need to realise though is this is how the world is today - the right wing does this all over the world - Putin, Trump, and Boris are the ones we know but it is deep rooted nearly everywhere - Germany, France, Hungary, Serbia, etc, etc - and these are just the country's who are supposedly democracies - you can add China, most of Arabia, Africa and a large chunk of South America where they basically have dictators in charge.

And the left wing can be just as bad - we simply don't really hear much about them though as they are not often in power that much - but Venezuela was a masterclass in ideological lunacy.

What we are seeing now which we haven't before though is the loss of integrity.  In the past if someone got caught out, they would resign (or quickly sacked), now it is all about protecting the party - putting it first before even country - because staying in power is what is most important to them.

Look at how Corbyn clung on to power after he got thrashed in the last election for instance...

People are wrong to think of things in black and white - Hate Tory/Love Labour or visa versa - politics is all about power (forget which party it is) they all want the same thing and they don't care what they do to get it and keep it.

The bad guys are winning...

maybe even have won already!!?

Interesting turn of events...

Partygate investigator Sue Gray offered top job by Labour leader Starmer

Senior civil servant Sue Gray, who investigated Covid lockdown gatherings in Downing Street, has resigned and has been offered the job of Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer's chief of staff.

A Labour spokesman said: "We understand she hopes to accept the role subject to the normal procedures."

Under the terms of her civil service contract, the appointment would be checked by the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (Acoba).

A Cabinet Office spokesperson said: "We can confirm that Sue Gray has resigned from the post of Second Permanent Secretary in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC). This was accepted by the department Permanent Secretary and Cabinet Secretary with immediate effect.

"We will not be commenting further on individual personnel matters. We are reviewing the circumstances under which she resigned."

Downing Street said it would not comment further on an "individual personal matter".

Another interesting development...

The Parliamentary committee (the privileges committee) looking into Partygate seems to strongly infer that Johnson lied to Parliament.

If so that would normally mean he would have been required to resign as PM (I say normally because when he was PM he didn't adhere to any rules really and there was no way to get shut of him short of a no confidence vote from his own parliamentary party, which in effect is what happened).

IF the committee states this in their final report it would seem the end of any ambitions Johnson would have of becoming PM again and a major blow (I would suggest) to the Conservative Party's General Election Campaign hopes as he is still highly popular with Tory voters to be the next PM.

IF Johnson is now unelectable as PM, Truss proved to be a disaster, Rabb is toxic (bullying claims), then it would seem that Braverman and Mordaunt as the only major rivals to Rishi to lead the Tory party into the next election if it is perceived that Rishi is not up to winning the General Election against Starmer. -

Boris Johnson may have misled Parliament over Partygate, MPs investigating his conduct say.

Evidence strongly suggests breaches of coronavirus rules would have been "obvious" to Mr Johnson, the privileges committee said in an update.

The inquiry has found four examples where Mr Johnson may have misled the House of Commons. This is not the committee's final report.

Mr Johnson is due to be give evidence to MPs later this month.

The former prime minister repeatedly denied breaking lockdown rules when asked in the House of Commons.

An investigation by the Met Police led to 83 people, including Mr Johnson himself, receiving fines for breaking lockdown rules.

The report said: "There is evidence that those who were advising Mr Johnson about what to say to the press and in the House were themselves struggling to contend that some gatherings were within the rules."
